About: Caroline Gurney
I’m a professional genealogist and historical researcher, based in Portishead, near Bristol. My work includes family, local and house history, tracing living people, and research for businesses, authors and the media. My clients include the BBC, Wall to Wall and HSBC. I have a 1st class honours degree (BA) in History and a Master’s degree (MLitt) with Distinction in Family and Local History. I have 34 years research experience, studying original documents in many different archives, and have particular expertise in internet research, people tracing and DNA. I have successfully completed a wide variety of commissions for clients, including corporate and TV work, family histories, house histories, heir hunting, finding relatives through DNA, coaching and problem solving to overcome brick walls. I’m a sought-after speaker, giving lively talks to general and specialist audiences on a range of topics related to history and genealogy. I have appeared in documentaries for the BBC and ITV. In addition to the Register of Qualified Genealogists, I’m a member of the Society of Genealogists and the Bristol and Avon Family History Society and an Associate Member of the Regional History Centre at the University of the West of England.
