New Full RQG Member – Phillip Manley
Phillip has recently moved from student member to full member and has achieved his MSc (Full-time dissertation) Genealogical Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde.
Based in the Scottish Borders, Phillip is especially interested in military history, especially PoWs in Japan in WW2.
After researching his mother in laws documentary father, whom she had never met or even seen a photograph of, Phillip asked her to do an autosomal DNA test (Ancestry) and to their surprise she came out with a lot of Italian DNA matches. These allowed Phillip to build a family tree to try and establish where this link could have come from. The research discovered an Italian/American individual who was employed by Singer (sewing machines) in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and during the Second World War he was stationed in the UK as part of the USQMC.
Phillip will be starting up his own business and freelancing for two companies with a view to perhaps returning to academia. He would also love to publish a book about his Grand Uncle Harold Dunbar, the inspiration behind his dissertation.
