
New RQG member – Mike Edwards
Mike has a Postgraduate Diploma in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies, from the University of Strathclyde. Based in Monmouthshire, South Wales, Mike’s location on the Wales-England border is ideally placed to research in Wales and South West England. (Gloucestershire, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall).
Mike’s special interests are
Migration to Wales from the Somerset Coalfields
Early 19th century schoolteachers in Wales.
Undertaking the PADFIELD one-name study.
He is currently researching the capture of the German steamer ‘SS Belgia’ in Newport, Wales at the outbreak of WW1. Mike has traced the imprisoned German officers and also living descendants of the 12 policemen who undertook the daring raid that was one of the first actions of WW1.
