Genealogist, Family Historian, Medical Historian
I have been involved in general genealogical research in Scotland for over 30 years. I have experience in Scottish genealogy (particularly in the counties of Argyll, Fife and Forfarshire); as well as a great interest in military history. My M.Sc. dissertation in Genealogy (2015) was based on comparing patient records from the Scottish Borders District Lunatic Asylum in the late 19th century with Poor Law records.
Publications: Lunatics, Imbeciles and Idiots (Pen & Sword 2017); Madness, Murder and Mayhem (Pen & Sword 2018).
Other post-nominals: M.B., Ch.B. (University of Aberdeen); Cert. Archaeol. (University of Edinburgh); B.A. (Open University); M.Sc. [Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies] (University of Strathclyde); F.S.A.Scot. [Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland] (elected 1991).
