Description
A background in library work – primarily local studies and reference – grounded me well for a future as a private researcher. I have been working as a genealogist, family and local historian since 2011 following redundancy from Gloucestershire Library Service.
Like many researchers my interest grew through investigating my own family history (back in the 1980s, well before the internet age) and I was able to learn at the hands of my reference library ‘boss’ who was patient and explained so much to me. So began years of discovery about the records and methods of research. This was built on when I signed up to the IHGS Correspondence Course in Genealogy back in 2009.
My experience in local study libraries works well with my research work as a genealogist enabling me to create family histories drawing on multiple resources to help illustrate the way ancestors lived and worked.
Living in West Somerset I am able to visit Somerset, Dorset and Devon archives.
