Description
Dr Dawn Jennifer is a professionally qualified Genealogical Researcher based in South Australia with an academic interest in the women of the Adelaide Destitute Asylum. She was awarded one of RQG’s annual student prizes for the top mark in the Pg Diploma in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies project for the academic year 2021/22 for her dissertation titled: “Who were the “deserted” wives and their families seeking poor relief from the Destitute Board, Adelaide, South Australia, 1855-1856? A genealogical study.” She was awarded an MSc with distinction in Genealogical, Palaeographic & Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde, Scotland, UK in 2023.
Currently, Dawn is collecting additional data to extend the research that she conducted for her Masters’ thesis, which is partially funded by a grant awarded from the History Trust of South Australia’s South Australian History Fund 2023-24. This research focuses on the, mostly unmarried, women who sought lying-in relief from the Adelaide Destitute Asylum between 1880 and 1918 when the Lying-in Department building was operational.
