Lorraine is an experienced professional genealogist; with a Diploma in Genealogy from the Institute of Heraldic & Genealogical Studies
I have broad genealogy experience and am especially interested in pre-Victorian research which takes me to archives across the country. My local archives are in Hampshire and West Sussex. However, family history research rarely stays in one place and ancestors often find their way to many places around Britain, especially migrating to London to find work. So my work takes me to so many different archives across Britain.
I live close to the Portsmouth History Centre and am a regular visitor to The National Archives at Kew (both are perfect for Naval and Military research).
I’ve had the pleasure of working with customers in Australia, New Zealand, the USA, and Canada, helping them to find family connections to their English ancestors. I discover things families did not know about their ancestors and I enjoy breaking down those pesky brick walls.
I have also been commissioned to work on several house histories. My first house history was for a property in Surrey that used to be a public house. I was able to trace its origins back to the early 1700s through the census, manorial records, licencing and taxation records, and the wills of its owners and occupants. A fascinating project presented in a ‘coffee table’ type book that is now enjoyed by the current owners.
In my spare time, I am the volunteer Research Manager for the Hampshire Genealogical Society and a Member of the Board of Assessors for AGRA.
I provide a range of family and house history research services, all to a very high standard and suitable for every budget.
