Professional Genealogist, Genetic Genealogist
Description
Melanie Whitt, MSc, QG, is a professional genealogist who works as a contractor for Family Locket Genealogists and private clients. She earned a Master of Science with Distinction in Genealogical, Paleographic, and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde. She is accredited as a Qualified Genealogist with the Register of Qualified Genealogists in the UK. Melanie has additional experience connecting US families back to Eastern Europe through Jewish, Catholic, Lutheran, Greek Orthodox, and civil records in Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
Melanie routinely incorporates DNA analysis in her research and has identified biological family in cases of adoption and misattributed parentage. She is proficient in using Gephi and DNAGedcom to create and analyze DNA network graphs to identify ancestors.
Continuing Education:
She is a graduate of both Research Like a Pro and Research Like a Pro with DNA study groups, serving as a mentor for the latter.
Presentations:
She has presented DNA-based case studies for the Research Like a Pro Webinar Series 2024, the Research Like a Pro Webinar Series 2023, and the Austin Lifetime Learning Institute. She is a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG) and the National Genealogical Society in the US.
