A symposium entitled “The Future of Professional Genealogy? A Symposium for Professionals” was held in Glasgow, Scotland on the 30th August alongside Who Do You Think You Are Live! Glasgow 2014. Following the symposium an online survey was developed. The purpose of the survey was to analyse the views of professional genealogists to the proposed development of a register, body or group that represents and promotes the interests of genealogists who possess a formal qualification. The survey showed overwhelming support for the development of such a body. A large proportion of the respondents said they would be interested in joining a body or group that represents and promotes the interests of genealogists who possess a formal qualification.
