Description

If you would love to know more about your family history I can help you. It’s been my passion since I was a teenager and after completing a History degree in 1992, I worked for many years as a professional genealogist with the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies in Canterbury, England, helping hundreds of clients learn more about their roots. My professional qualifications include a Diploma in Genealogy (IHGS). I am currently a tutor and mentor with the Institute, helping students who are studying for the Higher Certificate and Diploma in Genealogy.

I specialise in English research but have experience of tracing clients’ ancestry all over the British Isles and further afield, using both online and archive record sources. Based in Kent, the Garden of England, I can personally visit the county archives in Maidstone.

In addition to the quality of my research, I love to incorporate relevant local and social history into my professional reports to give you a real insight into the life and times of your ancestors. Sources used may include birth, marriage and death certificates, census records, newspaper reports, parish registers and probate records to name just a few. Let me help you uncover the amazing story of your family!

My aim is to tailor the research to meet your needs and offer a friendly service with a personal touch. Perhaps you have a brick wall that you want to crack, need one-to-one help with your DNA research or have a document that you can’t read. I can also offer assistance if you are seeking to find family members in the present day.

Further details of my services can be found on my website: http://genealogyjude.com and you can contact me directly at jude@genealogyjude.com. I am happy to arrange a free initial consultation by phone or Zoom.

In 2020 I started a blog and you can read over 70 articles on family history at https://genealogyjude.com/. I was a contributor to “Storytelling for Genealogists: Turning Family History into Family Lineage” by Doug Tattershall., published by Genealogical.com in 2024.

I have published articles for several family history magazines such as Who Do You Think You Are Magazine and Family Tree Magazine. From July 2023 to January 2025 I wrote the “Grow Your Family Tree” column for Computeractive Magazine.

I regularly give presentations on family history, both in person and online, and my talks include:

  • Knocking Down Brick Walls
  • How to be a Genealogy Sleuth
  • Records of the Parish Chest
  • 1921 Census in the News
  • Preserving Your Family History
  • Were the Victorians Like Us?
  • All the World’s a Stage: Finding Your Ancestors in Every Stage of Life

I look forward to hearing from you.
