Tutoring & Lecturing

I am the owner of Pharos Tutors®, which provides both short topic-based courses and certificate programmes in genealogy, family history and local history. Our certificate programmes were developed with and are taught jointly by Pharos and the Society of Genealogists and our Advanced Certificate is recognised by AGRA (the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives) as a route to professional genealogy.

My own areas of special interest are methodology and techniques, the uses of DNA testing in genealogical research and developing students to become competent researchers, whether for their own enjoyment or as professional researchers.

Research Services

I undertake genealogical research for both private family history clients and professional researchers. Projects include family trees, bespoke research and problem solving. I specialise in research Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Essex and also offer advice on the interpretation of DNA test results.

Author

I have recently written my first book on genealogy. Genealogy Methods and Techniques – A Practical Guide to Research, is due for publication in early 2026.

Qualifications & Accreditations

I am passionate about genealogy research to the highest standard. I have qualifications in both genealogy and teaching: I hold the Diploma in Genealogy (DipGen) from the Institute of Heraldic and Genealogical Studies (IHGS) and a Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) in Educational Practice from the University of Essex. Before this I trained and worked as a Pharmacist and hold a PhD in pharmaceutical research, developing research skills that have transferred well to genealogy. In addition to being listed on the Register of Qualified Genealogists, I am also a full AGRA Member and a member of the Association of Professional Genealogists (APG).
