Elizabeth Grady
Professional Genealogist
Description
I am a Glasgow-based professional genealogist and historical researcher with over a decade of experience in the field. My practice is built on a foundation of ten years of intensive personal research, complemented by a Postgraduate Diploma with Distinction in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde (2025).
I offer comprehensive, Scotland-wide research services, specialising in reconstructing individual lives within their wider community and historical contexts. My approach bridges the gap between the dedication of a long-term researcher and the rigorous technical standards of a qualified professional. Whether navigating the industrial records of the Central Belt or the tenancy and land records of rural shires, I am committed to uncovering the authentic stories of Scottish families.
I am also proficient in Scottish House Histories, tracing the evolution of buildings—from urban tenements to rural estates—using Sasines, Valuation Rolls, and architectural records to reveal the lives of those who owned and occupied them. This work is underpinned by a high level of palaeographic skill, allowing me to transcribe and interpret Scottish Secretary Hand and legal scripts from the 16th to the 19th centuries. By utilising social and administrative records, such as Kirk Session minutes and Poor Law archives, I provide a “Whole-of-Life” analysis of an ancestor’s standing and experiences within Scottish society.
