Hilary O’Connor
Professional Genealogist
Description
Hilary’s interest in genealogy began over 17 years ago when she helped her young daughter research their family tree for a primary school project. What started as a simple exercise soon grew into a lifelong passion, and over the years she has cultivated an extensive knowledge of her own family’s history.
A native of Dublin, Hilary holds an Honours Degree in English Literature from University College Dublin, followed by a Diploma in Business Studies. After a successful career in marketing, where she specialised in consumer research, she decided to apply her investigative skills to uncovering hidden family histories. She went on to complete a three-year Certificate in Genealogy at University College Dublin, graduating with First Class Honours, and later earned a Master’s Degree in History of Family from the University of Limerick, also with First Class Honours.
Since 2019, Hilary has worked as a full-time professional genealogist and is the founder of Lifetimes Genealogy Research, where she helps clients trace their ancestors’ unique stories. She also serves as a member of the Genealogy Advisory team at the National Archives of Ireland.
Hilary is passionate about bringing her clients’ ancestors to life, delving into diverse primary sources and situating each individual within their social and historical context to create a rich and meaningful picture of the past.
