Hoskins, Judith
Genealogist and Tour Guide
Description
My love of history, problem solving and communicating stories are all things I am able to bring to my clients at Winchester Genealogy and also to my work as a Winchester tour guide. I have nearly 40 years of family history research experience which I can use to help you with your research projects.
Winchester Genealogy is ideally placed to undertake research within Hampshire. I am based close to the Hampshire Record Office, Winchester’s military museums, Southampton libraries and archives and not far from the Portsmouth History Centre. Easy transport links make research trips to the neighbouring counties of Dorset, Wiltshire and West Sussex achievable in a day as well as to The National Archives at Kew.
My own ancestry is from Cumbria, the Isle of Man, Yorkshire and the Scottish Borders. Living in the south of England I am, therefore, well aware of the challenges of researching at a distance. If your family’s story has taken you back to Hampshire but you can’t visit the archives as you would like to then I can help you take your story back further, break down a troublesome “brick wall”, or provide you with a professionally researched family or house history report.
Please contact me for a free initial appraisal of your research requirements and for details of my services and charges. Winchester Genealogy’s services can take you on the following journeys:
Main Line – take one line of your family as far back as records or your budget allows.
Branch Line – taking a look at a specific branch or family group in your ancestry.
Slow Train – a cost effective look-up service at a Hampshire archive.
Right Track – reviewing your research and advising you on how to organise it and how best to continue the research yourself.
Ticket Inspection – a palaeography service to provide you with a transcription of an old document.
Platform Ticket – stay in one place and research the history of your house and the people who lived there through time.
Ancestral Tourism options also available – please contact me to discuss your requirements.
