Nicola Johnson is a UK‑based professional genealogist specialising in English ancestry, Merchant Navy, Titanic, and migration to and from the UK.

With extensive experience as a former BBC Broadcast Journalist, Nicola brings accuracy, clarity and strong narrative skills to her research and reporting.

Services include:

• English genealogy and family history research (nationwide)

• Archive research and document retrieval (Hampshire Archives, Dorset History Centre, Southampton City Archives, and The National Archives in London).

• Merchant Navy, Titanic, and migration research

• DNA genealogy and detective work

Nicola holds an MSc (Distinction) in Genealogical, Palaeographic and Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde. She is the winner of the British Commission for Maritime History Prize 2026 for her work on Titanic families.

Nicola writes for Who Do You Think You Are?, Family Tree, and Discover Your Ancestors, and gives engaging talks for family history societies, the Society of Genealogists, and other national and international organisations.

She is a member of the Register of Qualified Genealogists (RQG), the Royal Historical Society (RHS) and the Genetic Genealogy Research Network (GGRN). She is also an AGRA Associate.
