Karen Harry
Professional genealogist, family historian and local history researcher at Hireth Family History
Description
Hireth:
The Cornish equivalent of the Welsh hiraeth; a longing or nostalgia for a home or past you cannot return to. In terms of genealogy it expresses a sense of identity, rooted in lineage and a connection to ancestral homelands.
I have a background in museums and archaeology but swapped artefacts for archives and have been practicing genealogy for over 20 years. I studied for three years with the University of Strathclyde leading to an MSc in Genealogy, Palaeography and Heraldry, and now practice through my business Hireth Family History. In addition to being a member of the Register of Qualified Genealogists I am also a member of the Heraldry Society.
I undertake research across the UK and am well placed for archive visits or monument recording and photography in Cornwall and Devon. My own family research has focussed on Welsh and Scottish sources and on 19th century West Country mining migration, but other interests include the history of buildings, pre-census genealogy and heraldry.
The type of research I can undertake includes family tree development, help progressing your own research, house histories, local history research, interpretation of DNA results, archival research and document transcription.
While genealogy is generally fun, I recognise how deep-seated the need to understand our personal origins can be and have experience of dealing with unexpected findings, so you can be sure your ancestral journey will be handled with care.
