Genealogist
Description
*** I am not currently available for private client research work – please contact another member of the Register of Qualified Genealogists if you are looking for someone to undertake research on your behalf ***
I am a qualified genealogist based in Cardiff, Wales. I began researching my own ancestry over 15 years ago and began to pursue postgraduate qualifications in 2019. My Diploma project focused on Chancery cases from Somerset in the late sixteenth century, and my Masters dissertation examined early nineteenth century defamation causes in Llandaff diocese from a genealogical perspective. During 2023/2024 I have also worked as a researcher on the Papal Dispensations for Marriage Project at the University of Strathclyde, funded by the Foundation for Medieval Genealogy. I am particularly interested in undertaking research that focuses on south Wales and/or south-west England in the early modern period and long eighteenth century.
I am chairman of the Cardiff branch of Glamorgan Family History Society, and formerly a committee member for Roath Local History Society. Between 2014 and 2021 I was editor of the P*rr*tt Society (one-name study) journal, Family Notes. I am also a member of Bristol & Avon, Somerset & Dorset and Weston-super-Mare Family History Societies. Speaking engagements to date, on a variety of genealogical topics, have included talks for family and local history societies, Glamorgan Archives, THE Genealogy Show, Guild of One-Name Studies, and RootsTech.
