Description

www.folktrees.com

I am a highly-qualified, professional genealogist, based in Berkshire in the UK, with over 15 years experience of carrying out family history research and genealogical investigations. I hold a MSc in Genealogical, Palaeographic & Heraldic Studies from the University of Strathclyde, awarded with Distinction, as well as a BA (Hons) in History with English.

I welcome enquiries from potential clients and delight in helping people to discover more about their family’s history and preserving it for generations to come. I can help with a range of genealogical services, including:

• Solving family mysteries & helping to trace those hard-to-find ancestors.

• Comprehensive and meticulous research using a wide range of primary and secondary source material, presented in the forms of fully-referenced family tree charts and well-written, narrative reports and biographies.

• Palaeography – deciphering and transcribing old documents.

• House and Building histories

• Family history research review service

• Genealogical photography service (in central-southern England)

I enjoy helping clients from all over the world with their family history. I specialise in researching families from the United Kingdom; England and Northern Ireland in particular, whilst also having experience tracing families from Wales, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland.

For overseas clients, I welcome the opportunity to trace their British roots, whilst for those with transoceanic roots, such as those from Europe, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, I am happy to carry out research using a wealth of international resources. I am proficient in French, conversant in Russian and have command of the Cyrillic alphabet, both hand-written and printed.

I have a particular interest in women’s genealogy: Genealogical research about women is often much harder to carry out than it is for men. This is because, historically, fewer records relating to women were kept, and even if documentation exists, women were often consigned to the roles of ‘mother’, ‘daughter’ or ‘wife. Because of this, I am committed to researching and recording women’s genealogy, and in finding out as much as possible about our foremothers’ lives. This can be done by making up for any lack of documentation through creative thinking, a meticulous seeking-out of all available records, and full interpretation and contextualisation of the information available.

I am committed to delivering an exceptional, meticulous and friendly service for all your genealogical inquiries, however large or small. I look forward to hearing how I may be able to assist you with your genealogical project.
